Roman Baths in England

The Roman baths in Bath, England are being excavated and studied. A new spa is being constructed near the site of the ancient baths. It will use the naturally heated water that is famous for its restorative properties while employing all the modern conveniences of a World Class Spa.

As part of the European delegation to the International Spa Association, Mimi Barre studied in Bath, England to learn about the curative water, the history, and the modern-day application for healing of the Baths. She discovered that there are treatments that the Roman soldiers enjoyed which are healing for athletes today. Ms. Barre attended the ISPA conference in Newport, Wales, where she met with other spa owners worldwide to follow the progress of the Bath Project. Ms. Barre is the founder and owner of International Day Spa in Redlands, California, USA. Her spa has been designated as a World Class Day Spa

Contractor John Mowlem plc has completed the first major phase of the program, drilling 196 piles into the ground from which the new glass and stone cube will be built. Mike Gray, project manager, said, “This was a very complex part of the initial construction program, so we’re pleased that things have got off to a good start. The piling program was completed without any technical problems, which I hope will allay any remaining concerns over the hot spring system.”

The next steps are excavation of the basement to seven meters below street level, the addition of boreholes to monitor ground water temperature, and then the building will begin.

The project is due to be completed by 2005.
